Effect of Ginseng Crude Saponin on the Anemia of Acute Blood Loss in Rats

Abstract
This experiment was designed for the evaluation (.f the effect of ginseng crude saponin on the hemopoietic system.
Acute hemorrhagic anemia was developed by venesection(2m8/100mg. body weight) from jugular vein in rats and treated with ginseng crude saponin(10 mg/1009m, 20x8/1009m) for 4 days intraperitoneally.
With the intervals of 1, 3, 6, and 10 days, various hematological pictures including bone marrow section were studied.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. Red blood cell, hemoglobin and hematocrit values of rats treated with ginseng crude saponin after acute blood loss were recovered more efficiently than those of saline treated control rats.
2. Increase of reticulocyte count was more marked in the ginseng crude saponin treated group.
3. Appearance of normoblast in the peripheral blood was more frequent in the ginseng crude saponin treated group.
4. Bone marrow cellularity was more marked in ginseng crude saponin treated group in the early stage of experimental period.
This results suggested that the rapid recovery of hematological pictures in the ginseng crude saponin treated group was related to enhance of hemopoietic activity of bone marrow.
